Little Flower’s small class sizes allow our teachers to work individually with each student and maximize their potential. In grades K-8, our student-teacher ratio is approximately 12:1.

Each day at Little Flower begins and ends with prayer. Additionally, weekly student-led Masses provide opportunities for both faith and character development. We take great pride in preparing students to celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.

During the school year, students also participate in various forms of spiritual enrichment, such as the stations of the cross.  Little Flower also teaches the importance of mission-based involvement in our metropolitan community through service projects at local retirement communities, canned food or coat drives, dress down days for a cause, and many more.

Religion in the classroom utilizes two main programs, Benzinger and Christ Our Life.  These are designed to provide energetic and engaging ways to explore and live out the Catholic faith, and includes cross-curriculum activities and inquiry-based learning to encourages students to encounter Christ. Our goals are to foster each child’s love of God while providing a rich knowledge of our Catholic faith.

All kindergarten – eighth grade Little Flower students study:  religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, music, art and physical education. In 2021, we introduced the Renaissance 360© program as a math and language arts supplement curriculum. This innovative software engages students at their individual readiness level of learning through self-paced exercises that continuously adapt to each student’s skill level.

In addition to skill-based assessment through Renaissance 360, Little Flower students in grades K-5 utilize textbooks from the McGraw Hill Wonders program which focus on empowering students to take an active role in learning and exploration of reading, writing and speaking. 

Students also use the Accelerated Reader Program, which provides personalized goals and individualized reading recommendations based on each student’s interest and reading levels, as well as skills mastery through practice and quizzes.

The Language Arts program for grades 5-8 combines classical literature (including Shakespeare), poetry, business letter writing, personal narratives, research projects and more. This curriculum is further supported through the Renaissance Star formal assessments that help formulate individualized, independent reading goals each quarter.

The challenging mathematics curriculum has long been a key differentiator at Little Flower. Students use Sadlier Math textbooks in collaboration with the Renaissance 360 - Freckle Math program. Through a combination of critical skill development and assessment-driven instruction, teachers can access data and customize instruction to each student’s individualized needs. The adaptive nature of this program makes learning more student-centric. Our Pre-Algebra program begins in 7^th grade, followed by Algebra 1 in 8^th grade.  

Every Little Flower student is assigned their own Chromebook, and also have access to our innovative STREAM lab complete with 3D printer. Students learn key concepts of coding from a young age, and our 6-8 grade students participate in an innovative collaboration with Washington University called MySci that combines both Concept and Lab. 

3^rd-8^th Grade students learn about the geography and history of America through the McGraw Hill Impact Social Studies Program. This is designed to teach students how to be responsible, active citizens.   Additionally, Scholastic News is utilized for students in K-8 to discuss and study age-appropriate and relevant social studies topics.

In addition to the home classroom teachers, the students and staff are supported by our Learning Consultant and School Counselor. At any time throughout the school year, students, parents or teachers are encouraged to address questions and concerns about learning styles, social-emotional growth and other inter-personal issues with these professionals. 

To further support the social-emotional learning and development of each student, all grades participate in the Second Step program.   This includes at-home exercises for families to continue this type of growth outside the classroom.

Beginning in First Grade, Little Flower students study Spanish with our dedicated Spanish instructor.   

We believe in the importance of movement and play. In addition to physical education class several times each week, we incorporate holistic, whole brain strategies in the classroom to integrate activity and stimulate different learning styles.

Little Flower’s enhanced arts program includes dedicated instructors for early childhood, primary and the middle school.  Additionally, we offer enrichment through a music program focused on liturgical preparation for the weekly all-school Masses. Students in Grades PreK-4 participate annually in the Christmas Program, while students in Grades 5-8 host the Spring Play.
